How to improve your construction business part 1 Construction MPa.com

Mo Money. Mo Problems.

Business Owners Only.

Disclaimer: This Podcast is for Construction Industry Business Owners who want to hear the truth no matter how much it might sting. If you’re looking for nicey, nicey leadership advice? Go watch a TED talk!

Yeah, No!

I know you disagree with the Mo Money Mo Problems phrase one hundred percent! You think that money is the cause of all of your problems, and it’s your biggest stress, worry, and concern.

You think that if you had more money, you wouldn’t have to juggle as many plates, and you could afford the equipment, people, and machines to help across the board, and you are right. It would help in all of those areas.

So your thinking, ‘WTF are you talking about then if you agree with me?’ Firstly, I agree that having all of those additional things in your business would help your business. However, I disagree that money alone is the solution. Why?

The Ripple Effect.

Because of what it takes to generate that additional money in a construction industry business, the profits you’re drooling over come from significantly increasing your turnover. Increasing your turnover is cool if your business is a smooth-flowing, well-oiled machine… Is it?

There is a reason why most small businesses in the construction industry don’t make it past five years, never mind ten! Because the construction industry is brutally challenging to master as a business owner, no matter how skilled you are at your trade, service, or skill.

Crappy payment terms, holdback, lack of skilled labor, ridiculous timelines, tight profit margins are just a handful of the reasons why it’s hard to survive in the construction jungle. This brings us back to the likelihood of your company being a well-oiled machine.

You spend all of your time focusing on your skill, craft, trade, or service because that’s what pays the bills. You don’t spend all of your time on systems, procedures, documentation, leadership, processes, client relations, and training, and that’s worked (to a degree).

The Truth.

However, when you multiply your turnover significantly, you multiply all of your problems significantly also. The issues that you’re frustrated, annoyed, or outright pissed off with will grow also, but your ability to manage/handle them will not.

Above all something will have to give, and unfortunately, it will be either your sanity, health, or will to live!!! The answer? Strengthen your company from the inside out first! Increase the MPa of the foundation of your business so it can handle the load placed upon it as your turnover increases.

Therefore, in this episode of the Construction MPa Podcast, we will discuss the Mo Money Mo Problems argument, and most importantly what we need to do to prevent it from negatively effecting our company.

Enjoy!

Program vs. Podcast?

The Construction MPa Program is an entirely different beast than the Construction MPa Podcast. However, it was ultimately built with the same end goal in mind, too:

A) Help small business owners strengthen their businesses themselves via a step-by-step process.

B) To provide a home for small business owners to openly discuss the challenges they face in a sales and bullshit-free environment.
