It’s not me it’s you.
She lied.
I know your ex said, “it’s not you it’s me” but when it comes to employees in Business, let’s be honest, we typically think the reverse!
Typically issues with employees stem from the fact that they aren’t meeting our expectations or standards. Both of which we know reflect poorly on our company and can affect our opportunities in the future.
If these issues were rare, they wouldn’t be a big deal, and once upon a time, that might have been the case, but not anymore. A lack of quality, skilled, reliable trades workers is a common problem globally in the construction industry.
There are many reasons why this is the case, some of which we will touch upon in this Podcast. However, the reality is none of them matter. Dwelling upon the rights, wrongs, should haves, and shouldn’t haves is a waste of time.
It’s not you. It’s me.
If complaining isn’t going to help (at least not in the long run), what are we supposed to do?
Own it!
I know what you are thinking… something along the lines of “I don’t have the f#cking time to own it” or “How the f#ck am I supposed to do that.” The only thing I can do is offer you the wise words of the legendary Morpheus:
“All I’m offering is the truth.”
Should you choose to ignore this advice, you will find yourself in the groundhog day cycle of hiring, getting pissed off, firing, and hiring again! This cycle is bad for Business, and it’s bad for your health!
The only glimmer of hope is that if you do it properly, and you put the time and effort into creating the right working environment and training/developing your people over time. Eventually, they will become self-sufficient, and they will police the new hires. Then your life and bank balance will become a hell of a lot healthier!
In Conclusion.
It’s not your fault that there is a lack of good old-school skilled and dedicated workers out there, but it is your problem. The ‘It’s not me its you’ attitude might be correct, but it will not help your company.
You’re the big dog, and as the big dog, you’ve got to do what a big dog does and lead the pack! Lead from the front by example until the pack gets it. Or gets gone!
It’s not fair, but you didn’t set up your own Business because you thought it was fair. You set it up to improve your life in some way, shape, or form. Keep that at the front of your mind, and do what needs to be done!
Enjoy.
Program vs. Podcast?
The Construction MPa Program is an entirely different beast than the Construction MPa Podcast. However, it was ultimately built with the same end goal in mind, too:
A) Help small business owners strengthen their businesses themselves via a step-by-step process.
B) To provide a home for small business owners to openly discuss the challenges they face in a sales and bullshit-free environment.

Business Owners Only.
