Get over it.

In this episode of the Construction MPa Podcast, we talk about the importance of mastering the ability to “Get over it.” And by ‘It’ we mean problems. Because if you’ve got a business, you’ve got problems!

Disclaimer: This Podcast is for Construction Industry Business Owners who want to hear the truth no matter how much it might sting. If you’re looking for nicey, nicey leadership advice? Go watch a TED talk!

Business = Problems.

We know that you’re in Business to make a profit, to trade your skills, abilities, and experience in return for money.

However, the specific role, trade, or service you perform is only part of the Business equation. The real challenges we face as business owners, managers, leaders, and entrepreneurs are problems.

We like to say that ‘Death and Taxes’ are the two certainties of life. But I always throw in a third ‘Change.’ However, it would be fair to say that Business Owners could add a fourth ‘problems.’

A company’s ability to grow and survive the construction jungle is directly affected by its owners’ ability to ‘Get over it.’ Owners that dwell in hell, over-analyze, and major in minor things don’t last.

Dollars or Pounds?

When we think of currency, we think of money and how it differs internationally, for example, good old English Pounds vs. Dollars.

However, in life and Business, there are two additional currencies we must account for and spend/invest wisely:

  • Time.
  • Energy.

Money, time, and energy are limited resources, and we must get the best, most effective, and efficient use from them.

Problems can drain all three of these resources. Therefore we must be cautious where we ‘Spend’ our currency.

Our ability to prioritize problems, i.e., fix them, drop them, or note them down to be dealt with at a later date, is vital.

Conclusion

Dealing with problems and mastering the art of ‘getting over it’ sounds simple, straightforward, and no big deal. But experience has taught us otherwise. Many businesses have failed or had their growth stunted due to short-sighted, stubborn owners who make mountains out of molehills.

In this episode of the Construction MPa Podcast, we will dig into the problem-filled realm of construction industry business owner and shed some experienced-based light on it.

Enjoy

Program vs. Podcast?

The Construction MPa Program is an entirely different beast than the Construction MPa Podcast. However, it was ultimately built with the same end goal in mind, too:

A) Help small business owners strengthen their businesses themselves via a step-by-step process.

B) To provide a home for small business owners to openly discuss the challenges they face in a sales and bullshit-free environment.
